Thrifting is trending and how! Be it on the gram or those endless TikTok videos that keep popping up every now and then. One thing is for sure, there’s thrifting inspiration all around us which works so well especially when you are new to this ‘thrifting era’. While it’s popular, it surely can be overwhelming. Some say thrifting is an art, you must have an eye for it! And we do agree with that, but if you’re a newbie, you got to start somewhere. To make things a little easier for you, we’ve gathered a few tips to make your thrift store visits a smooth sailing experience. So, let’s delve right into it.
1. Make Notes
By noting down, we simply mean just making a list of what you are going to look for in specific. It makes half of the work easier because you won’t be mindlessly wandering around.
P.S – We aren’t telling you to make a strict and specific list but just a basic one that gives you a sense of direction.
2. Declutter your closet
This is a step we never miss even when we go about a shopping spree at the mall! To add in more stuff, you need to make some room, right? It’s not only about making room, but you also get a sense of what is that you really want.. This also makes sure you spend within your budget too.
3. Dress comfy
We find this to be the most important tip! You have to wear something that is comfortable and easy to take on and off while you’re in the fitting room. While you are already on a mission to find the best deals, feeling uncomfortable is the last thing you would need, trust us! So, wear something as easy and casual as a pair of leggings with a tank top or a comfortable sweater with your favourite pants and sneakers.
4. Take cash
We suggest you take cash for two reasons. The first being you will keep a check on your spending and will be within your budget and the second thing being, some stores accept only cash so having it is a safe option.
5. Skim & Scan
This could take a while to learn for sure but give yourself time. What comes handy here is the ‘note down’ technique we mentioned earlier. Because you know what you need, so you will try to look out for those pieces. Although, it may take some time, but you won’t be clueless for sure.
6. Be prepared for alterations
This is pretty much understood. Since the majority of the pieces will be one of a kind, the chances of the fitting being tweaked a bit here and there comes with it. We know sometimes it can be problematic but that’s the beauty of it! It’s one of a kind and now it’s yours.
These are just a few tips that always work when we are on a thrift hunt. More than finding those ‘one of a kind’ pieces that you wouldn’t want to miss, it’s about having a clear mind to explore. You also need to have patience and most importantly enjoy the process!
We hope we warmed you up a bit and gave you a headstart for your upcoming thrift store visits. If you do find fashionable picks that you’d like to show off, remember to tag us on Instagram @infusehumber
