How To Perfect The Minimal Makeup Look

Written by: Samayra Bahl

The  Minimalism trend has been around for quite a while now with people cleaning out their wardrobes, evaluating their spending, choosing quality over quantity AND the famous “One in-One out” rule.

But do you know what is even more popular? The ‘minimal makeup look’ or as everyone likes to call it these days the “No Makeup Look”.

It is definitely fun to play with colorful eye palettes, putting on red lipstick, full coverage foundation and getting all glammed up. But being minimal is not only good for your skin but for your wallet as well! The minimal makeup focuses on the “Less is More” concept.

Here are some tips we’ve rounded up for attaining a minimal makeup look.

It is exactly as it sounds. This look is all about getting a natural and glowing face by only enhancing your features. You don’t need to apply heavy foundation and concealer here. Instead, try to start your makeup routine with some skin-care. Start by using a hydrating face mask or apply some hydrating moisturizer.

A primer helps you to get a smooth base to start with, especially when you’re going for a minimal look. After you’re through with the primer, if you still need some coverage, you can mix some lotion or a moisturizer with foundation. If you have dark circles and feel the need to cover it, use a hydrating, lightweight concealer. You can also try to add a little bit of a cream blush to your cheeks. After you’re through with your foundation and concealer, for a more natural look, contouring your face with a bronzer will give you a glowy yet subtle look. We highly recommend you to use a matte bronzer.

When it comes to a natural look, eyebrows are super important. You can just use a brow gel with fibers to brush them up for a bushier brow look. Dark and volumized eyelashes don’t really scream minimal. Rather than focusing on the length and volume of your eyelashes, focus on either curling your eyelashes and using a light mascara. If you’re craving to use some eyeshadow, we suggest you put your bright and bold eye shadow palette aside and pull out your neutral palette.

For a minimal look, a bold red lipstick doesn’t really qualify. Instead, try using a neutral shade lipstick (matte or glossy) or a gloss to make your lips look more hydrating. We highly recommend you to use a lip balm before applying lipstick to avoid a dry look.

Lastly, don’t forget to remove your makeup properly. Just because you’re not using a lot of products doesn’t mean you shouldn’t remove what you have on. Sleeping with some makeup on, you’re allowing your pores to be clogged with dirt and oil which eventually lead to skin breakouts. Also, make sure you set up a permanent skin-care routine.
