Just because winter has arrived in Toronto doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors. Aurora Winter Festival
Running all throughout December, grab your loved ones and escape to a hidden village by the North Pole where you will be mesmerized by light displays, magical creatures, tasty food trucks, amusement rides, live entertainment and so many more activities that are sure to keep you entertained for hours on end. Highlights include an outdoor ice-skating rink, 50-foot LED light dome providing guests with a feel of the Aurora lights, Santa’s workshop and a tube park with a 170-foot slide covered in artificial snow.
Winter Flower Show
Stay warm as you sip some apple cider and walk through the city’s greenhouses. Filled with plenty of breathtaking floral scenes, this is a must-see and free winter activity for you and your loved ones. Visit Allan Gardens Conservatory Winter Flower Show from December 2nd to January 9th; and Centennial Park Conservatory Winter Flower Show from December 9th to January 9th.
Kensington Market Winter Solstice Festival
Happening on the 21st of December, the longest night of the year, engage yourselves in festivities that include handmade lanterns, theatrics with shadow puppets, stilted dancers and a fire finale. Attend this free event from 5 pm to 10 pm, and purchase your lanterns from 5 pm to 6.30 pm.
If you love performing arts, this show is not to be missed. Join the Toronto International Ballet Theatre as they put on the worldwide hit ‘The Nutcracker’ featuring Stars of the Bolshoi Ballet. With tickets starting from CAD 56.00, the show is to take place at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto on the 22nd of December, 2018.
Holiday Hot Docs
Running from the 14th of December until the 31st, head over to the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema for an evening of some classic holiday films and events.
